Intelligent Aerial Robotics

We are delighted to share the successful conclusion of the third Aerospace Engineering Study Program, organized at the School of Aerospace Engineering, Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) from January 13th to 22nd, 2025. This program, which follows two successful iterations in 2024, welcomed 26 students and faculty members from Northwestern Polytechnical University (NPU), China, continuing the partnership established last year.

We are thrilled to announce that two of our principal investigators at Intelligent Aerial Robotics research group, Dr. Ho Hann Woei and Dr. Zhou Ye, have been awarded prestigious national grants, Fundamental Research Grant Scheme (FRGS) 2024 for their research projects.

The School of Aerospace Engineering at the Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) is proud to have hosted the Aerospace Engineering Study Program from January 15th to 24th, 2024. This program, officially opened by our Dean, Prof. Dr. Farzad Ismail, welcomed a group of 26 undergraduate and postgraduate students from Northwestern Polytechnical University (NPU), China, and the delegate of NPU, Dr. Zhang Chun. The program was an integral part of the Advanced Aeronautical Technology and Aerial Robotics research project, coordinated by Dr. Zhou Ye, Dr. Ho Hann Woei, and Prof. Dr. Farzad Ismail.

We are thrilled to announce that our USM team has secured fifth place at the International Unmanned System Swarm Technology Competition (IUSC) 2023! This achievement marks a significant milestone in our journey as we participated in the drone swarm competition for the very first time.

Heartfelt congratulations to Alex Chin and Zhiwei Lee, our final year students, with their supervisor, Dr. Ho Hann Woei, for winning 2nd place in the AIoT, FPGA & Embedded Systems Track in Innovate Malaysia Design Competition 2022 from the School of Aerospace Engineering!

An affordable, palm-sized and automatic Micro Air Vehicle(MAV) to help farmers in monitoring health conditions of tissue-cultured banana seedlings in greenhouses, designed and developed by a team from the Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) School of Aerospace Engineering, had clinched the top prize for the Design Challenge Award under the CREST Design Challenge Category at the Innovate Malaysia Design Competition 2021 (IMDC2021).

A team of eight students from the School of Aerospace Engineering, Universiti Sains Malaysia, were selected to participate in the finals of Petronas Technology Challenge 6 along with five other teams, where two teams are from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, one from Universiti Islam Antarabangsa Malaysia (UIA) and one more from Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM Penang). These five finalists were selected from a total of 17 participating teams that handed in proposals and also pitch their ideas to the Petronas Research Team. These teams consist of students of varying backgrounds and studies where some teams consist of post-graduate students.
